About Maggie Lee for Good
Maggie Lee for Good began in 2009 to honor a spunky and loving 12-year old who lost her life en route to Passport Camp in Georgia. So many people prayed for her survival that a Snopes entry named Praying for Maggie Lee Henson was triggered on 7/17/09.
The CaringBridge Site became flooded with stories of her kindness and joy; making room for another girl at lunch, standing up for those in middle school who needed an ally and always dressing her Chihuahua, Ellie to the nines.
Over 200,000 hits after 3 weeks speak to the notion that this minister's daughter's story had captivated people from different faiths, backgrounds and beliefs and unified them in one cause.
When the miracle people hoped and prayed for did not come, people decided to be the miracle they prayed for and do one good deed on her birthday: October 29th, Maggie Lee for Good Day. A water well was dug in Malawi, Africa, throngs of non-profit organizations were helped and dog nudity, a passionate cause of Maggie Lee's was stopped, if only for the day.
Through the years the kindness continued and this year Maggie Lee would be 30 so that called for a special celebration. 30/30/30 has caught on precisely for the same reason that birthed MLFG 17 years ago; kindness feels good and we all hunger for a good excuse to do it.
Please jump in with both feet and gather friends, cereal or just call your mom on 10/29, it's just a really great excuse to be kind! And, hey, stop dog nudity while you're at it!
